AJ100 Sustainability Initiative of the Year 2022 shortlist revealed

The AJ can reveal the four practices shortlisted for the AJ100 Sustainability Initiative of the Year 2022 award

Foster + Partners has been shortlisted for its application of A Science Based Targets Whole Life Carbon methodology on its projects including the conversion of a gas plant in Madrid. This will become offices for sustainable infrastructure company Acciona Ombú.

Chetwoods’ Thrive sustainability team has collaborated with the National Building Specification to develop extra sustainability filters for its NBS Source database.

HLM Architects’ Circular Twin project to reduce whole life carbon is a collaboration with teams from Morgan Sindall Construction, SCAPE, Cundall and Lungfish Architects. The research suggests that early engagement and planning can reduce whole life carbon by almost 70%.

The shortlist is completed by Arup Architecture for Taikoo Green Ribbon, the winner of the International Advancing Net Zero Ideas Competition held by the Hong Kong Green Building Council. The proposal, a 230m tall commercial tower, is designed to achieve carbon neutrality within the first eight years of its life.

Last year’s winner was Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios for its FCBS Carbon whole life carbon calculator, with the judges describing it as ‘really impressive’ and a major industry contribution.

The shortlists for all ten AJ100 awards will be revealed this week and the winners will be announced on 22 June at the AJ100 gala dinner – click here for more information.
