Masterplanned by Sheppard Robson, Barts Square establishes a mixed-use quarter in the City of London through a combination of new build and re-use of existing buildings. Another mixed-use scheme, 80 Charlotte Street by Make, creates commercial, residential, and retail space along with a small public park in London’s Fitzrovia.
AJ100 newcomer Morris+Company is shortlisted for Belle Vue, a holistic retirement community in Hampstead, north London, for Pegasus Life.
Two overseas projects are also in the running. Designed by WilkinsonEyre, One Barangaroo is a six-star luxury hotel resort and is, at 275m high, the tallest building in Sydney, Australia. Grimshaw’s Terra – The Sustainability Pavilion at the Dubai Expo 2020 is an architectural showcase for sustainability strategies. Delayed by the pandemic, the Expo is now due to open in October.
The award is given for the finest building completed by an AJ100-ranked practice during 2020. Last year, the accolade went to the English National Ballet HQ by Glenn Howells Architects.
