Project title A Helping Hand

Project description This is an architectural scheme for a refuge and rehabilitation centre dealing with homelessness and isolation among the population of Camden in London. The scheme aims to provide a means to aid the tackling of addiction (with appropriate staff and facilities) and provide clothing and hygiene amenities and residential suites for those in rehabilitation. The scheme also provides a secondary set of residences to be used by those transitioning out of rehabilitation – and by those not dealing with addiction – to provide short-term residence (around six months). This can act as a safety net and form a foundation from which occupants can begin to reintegrate into society. This second phase will be coupled with a team to offer help in integration and finding employment opportunities.

Tutor citation Connor has produced a scheme that responds to a growing homelessness and isolation issue in Camden. The scheme sensitively considers matters of personal dignity and architectural creativity, tackling a challenging subject with decorum and maturity. Alex Griffin
