Studio/unit brief After Hours (Unit F)
Project title Of Moths and Men

Project description To glimpse the spirit of Hackney Wick, you need look no further than its skin, its bricks covered with bright colour, freakish hieroglyphics and eccentric art. To understand its soul, however, you must study deeper. The purpose of this project is to introduce the concept of preservation in an ever-changing environment, taking the form of a botanical library and seedbank that documents the restoration of the neighbouring Lea Valley Nature Reserve. By using the symbiotic relationship between plants and insects, specifically moths, to inform the library’s user-orientated design, the project attempts to address the link between humans and nature.

Tutor citation Richard’s project exemplifies the unit brief to create architecture that de-centres the human and embraces the city’s fauna and flora. Technologically, the building is a daring exploration of timber, cork, paper and thatch. Jack Hardy, Joe Giddings, Christelle Tippett

Postgraduate

Eloise Collier

Course MArchD Applied Design in Architecture
Studio/unit brief Zone 5 (DS5)
Project title Captured and Consumed: S-CAM Station

Project description Today’s generation is the most climate-conscious yet, but we have grown accustomed to wanting bigger, better, now. Every moment of life can be captured and commodified. The increasingly expensive city transforms essential services into commodities. As urbanisation spreads, cities verticalise. Class systems are perpetuated by performative heroics of affordable housing provision with poor doors and separate lobbies. S-CAM Tower alludes to a romanticised past, offering notions of durability, solidity and timelessness at a time where planned obsolescence prevails.

Tutor citation Eloise’s project explores regeneration, social media, influencer culture, mass transit and inequality, critically commenting on each. Each aspect of this project is thoroughly argued and researched and Ella’s entire portfolio is exceptional. Toby Shew, Owen Pearce, Maria Faraone
