Studio/unit brief Spaceport
Project title Space on Earth, Satellite Testing Facility for Spaceport, Cornwall

Project description This proposal for Spaceport’s satellite testing facility at Cornwall Airport, Newquay, is designed to make space science more accessible to the community while providing a sustainable environment for the space industry to flourish. The project embodies a spatial strategy for interaction and collaboration: teaching spaces intertwined with technical facilities, launch mission control and workspaces. An integrated museum celebrates the airfield’s past achievements. The visitor experience is a journey that frames and juxtaposes views of technology as exhibits and the natural environment throughout the building. The intention is to create spaces and places where nature and technology connect. Conventional assemblies combine natural materials, such as timber framing and CLT, with biomaterials such as mycelium.

Tutor citation Eva has reimagined the architecture of science parks and airports with a study that provides a new construct for the airport masterplan and the technical science building typology, proposing how they might mitigate climate impacts and how they serve the local community, as well as the industry and institutions.
